To gain insight, Relatics offers the ability to compare elements and their relations in the overview of a type element to past versions of themselves. Compare mode shows the differences between the dataset as it is now and as it was at a different point in time. This comparison helps evaluate progress and better understand the current dataset by showing major changes. Compare mode is an ideal tool for a baseline analysis.
Turn on compare mode for an overview
- In the type list, select the type element you want to compare.
- Select an all elements view, use case, or create a new my view using the Model selector.
- Once the right view is selected, click Compare mode in the ribbon.
- In the field Date, select a date in the past to which Relatics should compare.
- In the field Time, select a time for the date to which Relatics should compare.
- Click Apply.
- Optional: In the field next to Compare mode in the ribbon, press to open the compare filter.
Comparing past and present elements in a table
Once compare mode is turned on in a table, discrepancies between the current and past elements will be visualized with a certain color or style, to notify the user of the nature of the change. Some cells may show changes, but if a cell is selected it will always show the current value.
Notes:
- Tables in compare mode still have complete functionality. For instance, you can still apply filters, work with the model selector, or compare external type elements.
- If the type model has changed between compare dates, an indication is given in the ribbon.
- Elements in the table will not be editable.
- Detail views can still be accessed and will show the present data.
Compare rows
Row color | Description |
---|---|
Green
|
A row in green contains an element that has since been Added to the view. This applies to elements that have been created, appear in a filtered view, or appear due to a change in the archiving state. |
Red
|
A row in red contains an element that has since been Removed from the view. This applies to elements that have disappeared from a filtered view or disappear due to a change in the archiving state. |
Grey
|
A row in grey contains a Deleted element. |
White row with yellow cells
|
A white row with yellow cells is Modified and the changes are shown in the yellow cells. |
White row without yellow cells
|
A white row without yellow cells is Unmodified. |
Note:
- The Relatics ID of elements in red ‘Removed‘ rows has been italicized.
Compare cells
Changes in compared cells will be visualized differently for properties and relations. Independently of the row, the following conventions hold:
- Altered properties will show old values struck through, and new values will be highlighted.
- Removed relations will show a red badge with a minus sign.
- Created relations will show a green badge with a plus sign.
- For text properties, changes will be tracked in layout edits, styling edits, and text edits.
- Altered draft states of properties will be tracked.
Compare mode with back in time
In situations that call for a table comparison between two point past moments, it is possible to combine compare mode with back in time. Importantly, the back in time timestamp should lie between the compare mode timestamp and the present.
Note:
- A cell selection with this combination enabled will not show the present value of the cell. Instead it will show the value as it was on the back in time timestamp.
- Detail views can still be accessed and will show the present data.
