The relatable elements view is dedicated to creating new relations between elements. Furthermore, it allows users to create, edit, and delete elements. So, it’s a convenient view to edit incomplete data. This view can also be used to gain insight into the context of a relation, by showing which elements can be selected. Lastly, the relatable elements view is a powerful tool to perform a targeted search for an appropriate related element, since it allows filters and sorting.
Open the relatable elements view
The relatable elements view can be used for selecting elements that can make normal relations and, most importantly, to create middle element constructions. If the view is used for middle elements, it creates the relation and the middle element at the same time.
- In the overview of an element, a user can hover over the name of a type relation in the model row. This will highlight the name and the relatable elements button will appear behind it. Clicking the highlighted button will open the view.
- In the detail view of an element, hover over the header of a relation table. The name of a type relation becomes highlighted and the relatable elements button appears. Clicking the highlighted button will open the view.
Note:
- A collection relation table in the detail view, by default, has no button to open the relatable elements view. However, it is possible to open the relatable elements view if a single type relation is selected in the header of the collection relation table.
Work with the relatable elements view
Similar to a type elements‘ overview, the relatable elements view has an all elements view, my view, and, for hierarchical derived type elements, a tree view.
- The all elements tab is configured by the power user in the overview of the type element.
- The my view tab is where a user can customize the information in the relatable elements view. This tab is typically used to create a specific set of elements, by applying filters or sorting the data.
- The tree view tab shows a hierarchical view of the type element, similar to the tree view in an overview.
Users can either copy and paste the elements from the view or they can drag and drop them to create new relations. In the case of drag and drop, eligible drop areas have a striped outline when the element is dragged over them.
Notes:
- It is possible to open the details of the elements in the relatable elements view.
- The my view tab in the relatable elements view is separate from the my view on the overview.
- The relatable elements my view functions similarly to the my view on the overview. Each time it is opened it shows the last view created and the view will be saved between sessions.
