In cases where users are interested in the state of a table somewhere in the past, Relatics offers a back in time mode. This can be helpful when creating overviews at an agreed-upon specific point in the past (for third parties). Further, for systems engineering elements with a shorter lifespan, it helps to pinpoint a moment in the past and gain insight into the situation back then (e.g. checking requirements for a specific text).
Enabling back in time for a table
- In the type list, select the type element for which you want to view a table in a past state.
- Select an all elements view, use case, or create a new my view using the Model selector.
- Once the right view is selected, click Back in time in the ribbon.
- In the field Date, select a date in the past.
- In the field Time, select a time for the selected date.
- Click Apply.
Viewing a table back in time
Once a table shows a state from the past, it shows every element, property, and relation as it was on the selected date. A table that has back in time enabled can be recognized by a banner under the ribbon showing the back in time symbol and the selected date. Elements in the table will not be editable, but their detail views can still be accessed. Other functions like publishing to Excel and, for power users, generating a report script are still available.
Notes:
- The detail view will always reflect the element in its current state. Meaning that elements that have since been deleted do not have accessible detail views.
- If the type model has since been changed, an indication will be given in the back in time banner under the ribbon.
- It is possible to compare a table viewed back in time to a table at an earlier date.
- It is possible to generate reports with data from the past using back in time.
