Most projects in an organization follow the same methodology and, as a result, have similar information needs. Therefore, many type elements with their properties and relations may recur in multiple project workspaces. With the use of Relatics templates, organizations can manage a centralized SE model for their projects. By distributing this model as a template, new projects can effectively be up and running in seconds. Futhermore, subscribed projects are always up to date when new versions of this template are published.
What is a Relatics template
A Relatics template is the collection of the structure of a workspace, containing:
- Type model
- Views containing the All elements and use cases
- User roles
- Reports
Note:
- The elements containing the project data are not part of the template.
Create templates of working with templates
To use the template function, a workspace must be designated as one that can produce templates. This template workspace can still be used as a normal workspace.
When the template workspace is sufficiently mature, the power user can create and publish the structure of the workspace as a template. The template workspace will continue to evolve and new updates to the template may be published and distributed.
Create and update workspaces subscribed to a template
A new workspace can be created based on a template. This subscribed workspace begins with the workspace structure published with the template.
The power user of the template workspace can create new versions of the template containing updates to the workspace structure. After a new version of the template is published, the power user of the subscribed workspace will automatically be informed that a new update is available. They can carry out the update at a convenient moment for the project.
Enrich a workspace subscribed to a template
The workspace structure inherited from the template can not be adjusted in the subscribed workspace. Extensions to the subscribed workspace, e.g. adding a new type element to the SE model, are still possible. This way, specific needs for the project can be added while still taking advantage of the structure and updates the template provides.
When a subscribed workspace deviates too much from the template, it can be more efficient to end the subscription of a workspace. The structure of workspaces with ended subscriptions remains unchanged and the power users of these workspaces now have complete control over it.
